Would You Wear These Olympic-Inspired Reebok Insta Pump Fury Sneakers?
Yiiiiiiikes! That’s the first—and only—word that comes to mind when we see what Reebok has done to their classic Reebok Insta Pump Fury design. In order to try and help drum up excitement about the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, Reebok has gone ahead and created the Insta Pump Fury “Olympic London” sneaker in a colorway that is based on the color combination used in the famous Olympic rings. But, our question for them is: Why?
We get why they’d do this. Obviously, they’re trying to continue to breath life into their Insta Pumps by keeping them relevant with things that are going on today. There are also going to be a ton of other companies out there who create products tailored specifically for the Olympics in 2012. But outside of attracting folks who like to collect Olympic-related memorabilia, we don’t see these things being high-sellers in the United States or abroad. And to make matters worse, they aren’t even readily-available in the States right now. If you want them that bad, you’ll have to find an online retailer in Europe who carries them.
Essentially, we’re hoping that Reebok isn’t gonna start a trend here. We realize that the Olympics are coming this summer, and we’re plenty excited about them (go Team USA!). But we really don’t need to be reminded by this pair of sneakers. And, hey, Reebok: If you did want to create an Olympic-themed sneaker, how about going with a sneaker that’s not so quirky to begin with? Because after seeing how these sneakers look, we have to say that the Bolivian basketball team has a better chance of besting the U.S. basketball team for the gold medal in London in August than we have of putting these on our feet. And we get the feeling that we’re not alone in saying that.
