Kobe Bryant’s Second Commercial For The #KobeSystem Is Just As Funny As The First One
Last week, we posted a commercial for Kobe Bryant‘s new Nike Zoom Kobe VII sneaker featuring Kanye West, Sir Richard Branson, Landon Donovan, and a host of other super successful people. And it was, in a word, hilarious. From the mock inspirational speech that KB24 gave at the beginning of it to the punchline—”You’re welcome”—we were really impressed with the approach that Nike and Kobe took to selling the “#KobeSystem”, as they’re calling it. So, was there anyway they could top it with their second commercial aimed at trying to get consumers to check out the Kobe VIIs? Well, after watching it, yes.
In this new clip, Kobe allows Serena Williams to take center stage by talking to her about how important “adaptation” is to those people who are successful. Then, he introduces a metaphor involving dinosaurs and meteors, completely confuses Serena, and delivers his punchline once again. The punchline isn’t quite as funny the second time around. But Serena plays her part well and Kobe is doing a nice job of playing his part to perfection in these commercials. The result: Another funny-ass commercial!
We like the way these things are turning out. Rather than reach for the clicker, we actually keep these commercials on when they pop up on our television screens and we’re looking forward to the ones that come after this. We still aren’t sold on the Kobe VIIs themselves. But, we’re definitely buying the commercials being used to sell them. Keep ‘em coming, Kobe. You’re shooting 100 percent from the field so far with these.
