Take That! Diddy Is Launching His Own Music TV Channel
Move over, Oprah! You’re not the only African-American mogul willing and able to launch your own network.
Sean “Diddy” Combs is readying the launch of a music-themed cable network called Revolt. Aimed at African-Americans, the black MTV-esque station is slated to debut 12/12/12. According to Andy Schuon, former MTV programming chief, Revolt will harken back to the golden days of MTV focusing on music, music news, and, most importantly, music videos, which have taken a back seat to reality TV programming on many other “music” channels. Comcast is said to be in talks to carry Revolt as part of its ongoing efforts to reach a more urban demographic.
Diddy is no stranger to television. The music producer, who has dominated the worlds of fashion (Sean John), fragrance (“I Am King,” “Empress”) and liquor (Ciroc), has had several successful shows on MTV and VH1, including Making The Band and The Apprentice-inspired I Want To Work For Diddy.
