Is It Time To Blow Up The New York Knicks?

So much for this experiment. Just when fans in New York thought they had something to cheer about, they quickly come to the realization that this Carmelo-Tyson-Amare thing just isn’t working out the way they planned. Most fans were in denial once they shipped off Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Timofey Mozgov and some draft picks to Denver to get ‘Melo and Chauncey Billups, only to watch the Nuggets go on a torrid run with their new team. That’s okay, the Knicks would be better in the long run, right? Right? Wrong.

Since acquiring ‘Melo, the Knicks have gone 21-28. That sucks. Especially considering that he was supposed to be the savior. Everyone keeps saying “Give it time,” “They need a new coach,” or “They don’t have a point guard.” Yeah, the point guard argument has some weight, but not nearly enough.

Before ‘Melo, Amare Stoudamire was playing out of his mind alongside the young guns and PG Raymond Felton. Oh yeah, and the Knicks were winning games. With the addition of Carmelo, Amare has seen his numbers take a dip while the team can’t even go .500. They added Tyson Chandler and that hasn’t done anything to help them win. When it comes to being a team, the Knicks are far from it. They stand around and play the catch and shoot game as ‘Melo shoots a lousy sub-40% from the field.

This cannot be what Spike Lee and the city of New York hoped for. But how long do you wait until it’s too late? Surely Baron Davis can be of some help. At least that’s what Knicks fans are hoping for. But this might be the case of having a bunch of puzzle pieces that simply don’t fit. Now it’s time to consider getting rid of one (or two) of those major pieces and getting some parts that help the engine go. In reality, sending a package over to Orlando for Dwight Howard might be a good idea. Should that package include Carmelo? Perhaps. New York has been a city where the spotlight can burn if you don’t know how to handle it. Sooner or later, Knicks fans will be calling for ‘Melo’s head. Might be a good idea to cut your losses before its too late.

If the Knicks miss the playoffs this year, heads will roll.
