First Official Trailer For The Amazing Spider-Man
Sony Pictures just released the first trailer for the highly anticipated franchise reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man.
Reportedly, at theater screenings of the trailer, the 3D looked amazing. According to Screen Rant, in a special live appearance, director Marc Webb emphasized that the movie was filmed in true 3D “with those big bulky 3D cameras”, probably no simple feat when following the web-slinger.
The same article notes that this first look might have strongly swayed audience opinion in favor of leads Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Garfield was initially thought to be too “emo” for the role, and Stone was tasked with playing love-interest Gwen Stacy, although Spidey is best known for his entanglement with Mary Jane “MJ” Watson (played by Kirsten Dunst in the last series).
My first thought was that the movie seems to be very special-effects heavy and high budget, while I may have been expecting a smaller film in line with the “gritty reboot” following Sam Raimi‘s busy adaptations. I wonder if all the flash will swallow up the human elements.
My second thought was, “Denis Leary as an angry, New York, civil servant father? Nah, it’ll never work.” (Totally sarcastic there.)
What do you think?
