adidas Doesn’t Seem To Be Too Worried About The Trade Rumors Surrounding Dwight Howard
adidas must know something that we don’t. For weeks now, there have been trade rumors circling around Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic. Every day, it seems like the Magic’s Superman is talking about playing for a new team. At first, he wanted to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey Nets, or Dallas Mavericks. But in recent weeks, he’s opened up his trade options to include teams like the Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls. The perception is that he won’t be moved tomorrow. But he will be moved at some point in the near future. It’s all a matter of who the Magic can work out a trade with and where Howard wants to play in the future.
Apparently, adidas doesn’t care about those trade rumors, though. Because today, they’re releasing the adidas adiPower Howard 2 sneaker to the world. The Signature sneaker boasts the classic Three Stripes branding, a veiny effect on the upper part of the sneaker, and—surprise, surprise!—a black-and-blue Orlando Magic colorway. On the surface, that makes sense. And it should make sense for a few more weeks. But, what if Howard gets traded at the trade deadline this season? Don’t these shoes automatically become outdated?
Maybe adidas should have thought about that before releasing them. Or, maybe they just know something that we don’t. Either way, we’re not sure we’d cop a pair of these just yet. If it sounds like Howard is staying put—stay tuned, we’ll continue to let you know—they might be worth copping as a basketball sneaker. But, for $100, you’d probably be much better off wearing an adidas sneaker from a guy who will definitely be with his team this season and for seasons to come—Bulls point guard Derrick Rose. You know he won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Which is more than you can say about Howard right now.
