Catholic Church Infuriated By Nicki Minaj’s Grammy Performance

Nicki Minaj‘s Grammy performance on Saturday did more than just leave us dumbfounded and confused. The performance, which featured a dancing priest, a faux exorcism, and a female dancer stretching backwards while an altar boy prayed between her legs, angered The Catholic League. President of the Catholic League of America, Bill Donohue, said in a statement on Monday:

“Whether Minaj is possessed is surely an open question, but what is not in doubt is the irresponsibility of the Recording Academy. Never would they allow an artist to insult Judaism or Islam.”

Donohue reiterated his position in a statement to Fox News:

“There are Catholic priests who are trained to perform exorcisms, and it seems plain that the time has come for Nicki Minaj to make an appointment. Even worse than Minaj is The Recording Academy that runs the Grammys: they knew exactly what she was going to do and gave her the green light. I’ve never heard of a collective exorcism, but there is a first time for everything.”

Along with offending Catholics, some experts foresee she may have negatively affected her future album sales with her performance. Ronn Torossian, CEO of 5WPR told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column:

“Nicki Minaj was clearly aiming for shock value and mass PR, and she succeeded. With big ideas and shock value comes big opportunity, but also backlash. She has to be aware of possible alienation from some of current fans, who take religion and spiritually seriously.”

Despite the potential backlash, Nicki has made her position on the controversy very clear via a post on her Twitter page on Monday, saying:

“Stay offended. Not a single F**K is given.”

Well alrighty then…just in case you missed it, check out Nicki’s performance below:
