Manny Pacquiao Reveals Why The Mayweather Fight Didn’t Happen

In an exclusive interview with Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole, Manny Pacquiao discussed the reasons why the recent talks with Floyd Mayweather broke down and the fight that everyone wants to see didn’t happen…again.

“He talks, he says all this, but you know what: He doesn’t want the fight,” Pacquiao firmly told Yahoo! Sports in an exclusive interview. “I want the fight. I’m the one who has wanted this fight all along.”

There has been much debate regarding who wants to fight and who doesn’t. Depending on who you ask and when, the answer will surely be different. We have yet to see both fighters come out and say they want to fight each other at the same time. It wasn’t about the drug testing this time. What it boiled down to was the money.

“He offered me $40 million, and no pay-per-view [money],” Pacquiao said, breaking into a laugh. “No pay-per-view. Can you believe that? Would you do that? Come on. What would he say if I offered him $50 million – not $40 million, $50 million – and said ‘No pay-per-view. Take this money and be happy, but no pay-per-view.’ He wouldn’t do it, either.”

As you can imagine, Team Mayweather has denied that this particular discussion has ever happened. According to Pacquiao, he wants what he feels is his “fair share,” and who can argue with him? Splitting the money between the two biggest boxers in the world makes perfect sense. If you are confident in your skills, you might as well fight. Money shouldn’t be this much of a sticking point. Both fighters stand to earn a boatload of money; which is more than most of us will ever see in a lifetime. But, for some reason, these two just can’t seem to agree on anything.

What will it take for this fight to come off?
