The Galaxy Foamposites Caused A Huge Riot At A Mall In Orlando
You just knew this was going to happen, right? As of last weekend—a full four or five days before the Nike Galaxy Foamposites were released—there were people all over the country standing in line waiting to buy a pair. And for good reason. Go do a quick scan of eBay and you’ll find that there are Foamposites going for upwards of $2500 (or more!) on there. So people would have died to get their hands on a pair of these when they were released the other day. And, in at least one instance, they almost did.
At a mall in Orlando—where, by the way, the NBA was getting ready to hold All-Star Weekend—a crowd of 3,000 people gathered to await the opening of a mall where Galaxy Foamposites were being sold the other night. Unfortunately, though, the mall did not set up a line or inform those who had gathered of exactly how many pairs of Foamposites would be available. So people just continued to gather and gather and gather…until things went terribly wrong. The crowd got unruly, shots were fired into the air, and riot police had to be called to the scene to calm things down. In a word, it got crazy. All over a bunch of pairs of sneakers.
When is enough going to be enough? We love the fact that people are so invested in sneakers that they’re willing to go and wait in line for days to get their hands on a pair of them. But, at the same time, if even one single person gets killed as a result of the madness that surrounds these sneaker releases, Nike has to find a better way to do this. Having folks stand in gigantic lines for midnight sneaker releases is a recipe for disaster. And, if something doesn’t change soon, we fully expect to see more situations like the one that happened in Orlando with the Galaxy Foamposites. It’s a real shame. But with the way the world works today, Nike really needs to find a new approach in the future. Because this could have been a real tragedy. And it all would’ve been over a pair of sneakers.

Nike didn’t cause this, niggas being niggas caused this. You don’t see white people fighting in line @ Apple Stores for new iPads.

The people literally waiting in line for these kicks are ridiculous I mean for real though its not that serious. Its not worth getting hurt for a pair of kicks that you might only wear a few times and then rush to the store next month for the next pair. People need to prioritize themselves, and think do I really need them at this moment. Its just a pair of kicks people. On that note selected stores that do sell them should do a private lottery and there would be less kaos/riots and it would be a lot safer. But the Nike company knows this is a popular item and should make enough to support the larger crowds wanting them not just making a handful per store. To the idiots paying thousands on eBay use that for a down payment that is for some use not for something that goes on your feet. Have a safe and productive day everyone!
Boss b you sound like an uncle Tom. White people trample each other to death at wal-mart on black Friday over half price toaster ovens and $200 laptops. Happened 2 years ago in NY. Only a self hating, house negro would say what you just said. There aren’t riots over iPhones because there’s an unlimited supply, apple doesn’t run out or make limited quantities just to increase hype. Basic marketing principles (that you obviously know nothing of) dictate that when you have a recognized brand, the best way to induce panic is to “leak” tidbits of information and let the hype build to astronomical levels fueled by rumors and talk. Then you drop a super limited amount to make people crazy. This madness is the fault of the police who think this is a joke because it is over sneakers. Notice how they stand around laughing and not doing jack s— until it’s a panic, then they get all aggressive. If the police controlled the situation instead of having a rush for the line, nothing would happen.
Dismami, what makes the people waiting in line for there shoes stupid? If there is something in life that makes you happy whether it’s shoes ,iPod ect some people got to the extremes to get those things. Why should Nike mass produce a shoe to make everyone happy? To prevent violence? Stores just need to do a better job w the releases. Now I didn’t stand in line but I have been a sneaker head for years and I admit I have had my share of camp outs. That does not mean I am less productive that you or anyone else that feels like you. And I will admit I paid for mine on eBay,but I also have a house, pay my bills and send my woman thru school. My priorities are def in order I can’t speak for anyone else that paid for them. But you can’t judge a group of people based on the fact that they sat in line for kicks or pay a crazy amount. Nobody says anything about those $1500 bags and $300 hairstyles y’all pay to have. To each is own. And @ Boss B, if you watch the video from the mall riot There were a lot more white consumers than black.
