Why Did Lamar Odom Get Demoted To The NBA’s D-League?

If Khloe Kardashian didn’t like seeing her man get traded to the Dallas Mavericks, she really isn’t going to like to see where he’s getting shipped next. That’s because Odom—last year’s Sixth Man of the Year recipient—is going to be playing his next game (later today, in fact) in…Frisco, Texas! Um, what?

That’s right. Because Odom has spent the better part of the last two weeks tending to a sick relative—reportedly, his father—he doesn’t feel that he’s in good enough shape to return to the Mavs right away. And up until this point in the season, he’s struggled to get back into game shape and be as effective as the Mavs were hoping he’d be when they struck a trade deal with the Los Angeles Lakers at the end of last year. So he’s agreed to make at least one appearance with the Texas Legends in order to “get his legs back under him” before he ultimately lands back in Dallas to finish out his first season with Mark Cuban‘s crew. And, surprisingly, the 32-year-old is going right along with all of this and putting his ego to the side for the good of himself and, more importantly, the Mavs.

At this point, this story has legs simply because of the Odom/Kardashian connection. If Khloe and Lamar weren’t on E! every week showing us how great their lives are, none of us would give two you-know-whats about whether or not Odom was going to log some minutes in the D-League. But, because they are all over it, Us Weekly and the other tabloids are all over this story. And we can’t help but chuckle when we think about Khloe K sitting courtside at a D-League game. Oh, how the mighty, overprivileged, reality TV stars have fallen. Even if it is only for one day.
