Joan Smalls Becomes The First Woman Of Color To Cover Vogue Italia In Four Years
Model Joan Smalls is featured on the March 2012 cover of Vogue Italia and the results are groundbreaking in more ways than one.
The Victoria’s Secret and Estée Lauder model is Puerto Rican, making her the first woman of color to cover the magazine since July 2008 when the magazine released a special all-black issue. And, according to Vogue’s site the results are pure “craziness!” It says: “Starting from the colors. Admirably expressed through eccentric and visionary make-up. With psychedelic eyelids, adorned in the lavender nuance of Pure Color Eyeshadow, iridescent violet, and decorated with contrasting drawings created with Double Wear Lip Pencil, pink, and Eye Pencil, forest. Lips, instead, are natural with Pure Color Sensuous Rouge, nude, a bright and moisturizing lipstick.”
Joan, who tweeted about her cover honor by saying, “OMG! Woke up this morning and saw this. Dreams do come true.…,” rocks a printed brocade jacket with jeweled buttons by Dolce & Gabbanna and earrings by Erickson Beamon. Shot by Steven Miesel, the issue has only one cover line: #overthetop.
After seeing this, Ms. Smalls is on top indeed!
