What In The World Were LeBron James & Dwyane Wade Wearing On Sunday Afternoon?
I’ll admit it: I’m not stylish. Like, at all. I don’t really buy designer clothes. I don’t go out of my way to stay up on the latest fashion trends. And I definitely don’t look like I spend a lot of time picking out what I wear every morning. I respect those of you out there who do. But I’m 29 years old and I still consider wearing a hoody, a pair of sweats, and a decent pair of Air Maxes (the only thing I probably do put a little thought into) “dressing up.” I’m not particularly broken up about it—and you shouldn’t be, either—but I’ve just never been into style.
That said, I’m pretty sure that this is not what’s hot, is it? On Sunday afternoon before the Miami Heat took on the Los Angeles Lakers out in Cali, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade strolled into the Staples Center wearing…well, that. And by “that,” I mean a couple of outfits that looked like they belonged on a couple of guys strolling down the street in South Beach on a Saturday night, not on a couple of guys getting ready to do battle with Kobe Bryant & Co. And yet, there they were—Bron-Bron carrying some sort of “murse” and D-Wade rocking white pants and a pair of loafers. Yep. These are our NBA heroes, folks!
Now, as I said in the beginning of this post, I really am the last person who should be making jokes about the way someone dresses. But, at the same time, I also take issue with the fact that LeBron and Dwyane have stylists who essentially force these guys to take ridiculous fashion risks that aren’t necessarily practical or good for their images. Not that these guys aren’t allowed to dress well—heaven knows they can afford it!—but is this really the way that LeBron and Dwyane want to project themselves to the world? Is this really how they want to dress? Or, are they just trying to play the part of some superstar athlete that they think they should be playing?
I don’t know. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this is what’s hot. But every time I looked at this picture yesterday, I couldn’t help but think of this:
And that is definitely not a good thing. Somebody please tell me I’m wrong.
Scav, you’re wrong. I’m no fashion expert or model by any means, but I’m aware of the trends for men. These guys are right in line with what’s current. And I hate to tell you: it’s not “risky” at all. It’s pretty tame stuff… especially for young men in entertainment, based in an urban environment.
These two actually are dressed pretty sharp and if the league is paying these guys large amounts of money, they better dress like adults and not like kids.
