DJ Jazzy Jeff Gets His Own PRO-Keds 69er Sneaker
At this point in time, doesn’t it feel like everyone has their own sneaker? Like, seriously. Once upon a time, you had to be an athlete to have your own sneaker. And that made sense because, well, athletes wore sneakers. Then, rappers and other musicians started to get their own sneakers. Why? Well, they were huge fans of the sneaker culture, so sneaker companies decided to pay homage to them by giving them their own sneaks. But, now? It feels like anyone with a half-famous name who agrees to put it on a sneaker gets one. It’s gotten a little out of hand, no?
That being said, we’re not totally mad at DJ Jazzy Jeff for taking the opportunity to attach his name to a pair of PRO-Keds 69er sneakers. Last year, Biz Markie had the honor of having his name scrawled across a pair of 69ers. So it’s cool to see PRO-Keds sticking with honoring legendary hip-hop figures rather than trying to convince newjacks to let them use their names. The classic 69er silhouette is also the perfect sneaker for honoring a classic hip-hop artist, which Jazzy Jeff obviously is. So we’re glad PRO-Keds selected him.
The sneaker includes a glossy black upper, Jaazy Jeff’s name on the tongue, and a special insole that honors Jeff by featuring his name. You won’t be able to get your hands on these just yet—they should hit stores sometime in the fall—but keep your eyes peeled for more information on when and where you can cop them. Even though you’re probably inundated with sneakers that have been created for someone, these are worth a second look—if for no other reason than to pay homage to a hip-hop legend. They’re worth adding to the collection for that fact alone.
