Kristen Stewart in On The Road: First Trailer
The film adaptation of Jack Kerouac‘s Beat classic On The Road released it’s first trailer this week, offering a peek at the wild road trip of Dean (Garrett Hedlund) and Sal (Sam Reily). Kristen Stewart is featured as the teenage bride of the unaccountable but irresistible Dean, based on real-life Beat muse Neal Cassady:
The trailer looks emotive and beautifully shot, but will it capture the manic energy of the novel written continuously over three weeks, fueled by cigarettes and amphetamines? While any film adaptation of a literary classic faces daunting challenges and expectations, On The Road offers more than usual: it’s essentially formless and rambling, and has earned notable criticism even in the literary world. But with an art house adaptation of the long poem “Howl” starring James Franco earning decent reviews in 2010, not to mention One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, we might expect to see more movies from the Beat canon. Dharma Bums starring Taylor Lautner, anyone?
What do you think of the first look at On The Road?
