The Orlando Magic Need To Get Rid Of Dwight Howard
As Thursday’s trade deadline quickly approaches, the Dwight Howard situation in Orlando continues to bubble. What will the Magic do? Should they keep him or trade him? You want to know what the answer is? Get rid of his ass.
DW12 has been holding Orlando hostage since the pre-season with his on-again, off-again trade demands. One day he wants to stay, most days he wants to go. Orlando’s front office has done everything a desperate girlfriend would do to keep their man happy. They went so far as telling Howard that he can basically run the show just as long as he stays in a Magic jersey. It’s silly that Orlando would try to appease a player who clearly doesn’t want to be there.
As of Tuesday, Howard went as far to say that he wants to finish the year with Orlando because he wants to “give our team, give our fans some hope for the future. But I feel they have to roll the dice. It might be tough, but I feel we’ve got a great opportunity. But they’ve got to roll it,” according to ESPN. What he’s basically telling them is that he doesn’t want to be traded now, he’ll just leave for nothing later. But the Magic front office should listen to nothing that Howard has to say. Why not actively try to trade a player that wants to go just because he wants to stay until the end of the season?
Forget what Dwight Howard wants. Do what’s best for the organization. If that means shipping his ass to Charlotte in exchange for some draft picks, do it! Dwight may be miserable but that’s what he gets. If any deal pops up that allows you to rebuild — and not with meandering role players that will barely help and keep you a middling fringe playoff contender – do it. Just get what makes sense to the team’s future. Dwight Howard is obviously the past and his grown ass kid mentality is doing nothing but weighing the team down.
The only way you keep Howard is if he signs an extension. If not, bon voyage! It’s been great but the team has to move on and not be held hostage by a man who really doesn’t know what he wants.
