Sorry, Jeremy Lin: Here’s Proof That Linsanity Is Officially Over!
Well, that was certainly fun while it lasted, eh? For a few weeks during February and early March, Jeremy Lin was all that anyone wanted to talk about. “Is he really that good?” some people asked. “Where did he come from?” others questioned. And then, there was our favorite query: “How long is Linsanity going to last?” Turns out, the answer to that question is “about a month,” because it appears that Linsanity is just about dead.
How can we tell? Well, earlier this week, someone snapped the photos posted below. They were taken at a Duane Reade drug store in New York City and show a bunch of Jeremy Lin merchandise marked down by 50 percent. Just a few weeks ago, they couldn’t keep this stuff in stock. Now? Well, they’re on the verge of having to give it away. That’s how quick it happens. One week you’re the toast of the town. And, the next, people are tired of you. A long losing streak and a ton of unnecessary turnovers will do that to you!
Really, though, it’s probably for the best for Lin’s overall career. He got too famous too quickly and his game has been under a large microscope as a result of it. It’s important to remember that Lin doesn’t just want to play for one or two seasons. He wants to be in the NBA for a long time. And that means that he’s going to need to get better at a bunch of things and improve his game so that he can help the New York Knicks moving forward. If Linsanity continues, he probably won’t be able to do that effectively.
Right now, the Knicks are in shambles and need all the help that they can get. And it appears as though they’ve gotten an assist from Duane Reade. By marking down Lin merchandise and ending Linsanity, they’ve given Lin the chance to get back to doing what he does best: running the point for the Knicks. And if he can do that, the Linsanity will be back. Just as soon as he helps lead this team to a championship. Wouldn’t that be Linsane?
