Star Power At SXSW 2012 Continues With Lil Wayne
SXSW has grown in epic proportions over the past few years. Rather than being simply a platform for budding artists, SXSW has been the place for established artists to join their up-and-coming counterparts at venues throughout Austin, TX. On Tuesday night, Jay-Z performed for American Express. On Wednesday, Kanye West joined 2 Chainz on the stage for SOB‘s 30-year anniversary. Now, Thursday night saw Lil Wayne launch his new campaign with Mountain Dew titled “DeWeezy” with a special performance.
Although this is great, you have to wonder if SXSW may be losing its identity as a festival where the young talent can grow to become an established artist. With heavy hitters like Weezy, Kanye and Hov overshadowing any of the “little guys,” when will SXSW become just another showcase for big names to perform rather than develop the up-and-comers?
Nevertheless, Thursday was another night that was highlighted by one of hip-hop’s major players. Check out the video courtesy of Mikey Fresh over at MissInfo.TV of Weezy kicking things off.
