Are These Ridiculous Photos Of A Chinese “Gangster” Real Or Fake?

We’ve seen our fair share of cell phone photo leaks over the course of the last few years. In most cases—in fact, in just about all cases—those photos have featured naked pictures of celebrities. And most of them have been situations in which the celebrities have had their cell phones hacked. However, there are some very strange cell phone pictures floating around right now and, whether they’re real or not, they are certainly getting everyone’s attention.

The photos feature a purported Chinese “gangster”—a man who is shown doing everything from sitting in front of a large pile of cash (approximately $170,000 worth of Yuan) to sitting in the front seat of a Porsche to shaking down what appears to be an innocent civilian for…well, we’re not sure what for. But it sure does look painful. Some of the photos even show some really violent stuff. In one, a man appears to be having either his fingernail or his entire finger ripped off. Pretty sick.

Now, the question: Are these photos real—or have they been doctored? At the moment, it’s unclear who the man is or whether or not he uploaded the photos of himself to the anonymous photo-sharing site Imgur. This could very well just be a well-orchestrated practical joke. Or it could be a much more serious situation that police need to investigate. But, it’s interesting, if for no other reason than that it shows what the authorities could be up against these days. They’ll have to determine where photos like these come from, try and decipher the stories behind them, and go about hunting guys like this one down to question them. It’s not going to be easy.

But, for now, what do you think about these photos? They look pretty real to us. And they’re not so outlandish or out there that we don’t think they could very well be real. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what becomes of them.
