Michael K. Williams Will Play Ol’ Dirty Bastard In Biopic
Having conquered the world of fictional characters with his portrayal of Omar Little on The Wire, Michael K. Williams has to move on to playing people who are too outrageous and legendary to be made up. Deadline reports that Williams will star as Russel Jones, a.k.a. Ol’ Dirty Bastard, a.k.a. ODB, a.k.a. Dirt McGirt, in the upcoming film Dirty White Boy.
Huh? Yep, that’s the title. Reportedly, the film revolves around the unlikely partnership between ODB and Jarred Weisfeld, an ambitious 22-year-old VH1 intern who visited the rapper in prison to pitch a reality show, and ended up his manager. The two were close friends until ODB’s death by drug overdose in 2004.
The producers describe the film as a combination of “Risky Business and 8 Mile.” (Was “Get Him To The Greek, but with more black people” too offensive?) Joaquin Baca-Asay (cinematographer of Super Troopers and We Own The Night) will make is directorial debut with the movie.
What do you think about this casting news: good decision, or great decision?
