Selita Ebanks Debuts SASS Swimwear Collection On Rip The Runway
What’s the female version of swagger? According to Selita Ebanks, it’s SASS.
The Victoria’s Secret model has made a career for herself sashaying in swimsuits down the runway for the legendary lingerie company and on some of the most beautiful and exotic beaches in the world for Sports Illustrated‘s celebrated Swimsuit Edition. Now, she’s bringing her expertise of sexy swimwear to her own collection called SASS which stands for Selita’s accessories, shoes, and swimwear.
“I wanted a name that covers all of my aspirations in the designing world,” Ebanks told the NY Daily News. “SASS is basically the female version of swag. I wanted something that will empower women and let them know that their sass is untouchable. It takes a certain kind of women to have sass—very confident, sexy, and independent.”
Back in February, the 28-year-old supermodel announced she would be launching a beachwear line. And, she recently gave the masses a sneak peak of her designs during BET‘s 8th Annual Rip The Runway fashion extravaganza. Featuring latex, shiny fabrics, and fringe, the designs are definitely not for a lady that is faint of heart. “That’s definitely not for the timid,” she says of one very dramatic chain link cover-ups. “But the great thing is that if you have a one-piece swimsuit that’s pretty boring, this is something you could just throw on top of it and reinvent it. It’s fun and sexy.”
For her first runway show, Selita made sure to recruit a variety of body types to walk her in pieces. “I love giving young aspiring models an opportunity,” she said. “I wanted different body shapes – really small mini minis and then I wanted big voluptuous, like just bottoms pouring out everywhere. So hopefully when people watch it, they can see themselves in it.”
