Delonte West Wore His “Galaxy” Foamposites During A Game The Other Night
Unless you’ve been hibernating this winter and just woke up, you’ve no doubt followed all the hype surrounding the “Galaxy” Nike Air Foamposite One. The sneaker, which was released about a month ago, sold out immediately, caused riots at several malls across the country, and can now be found on eBay for the low, low price of, er, about $2000 or so. So, yeah, it’s safe to say the “Galaxys” will go down as the most newsworthy sneaker of 2012.
But, for all the hype surrounding them, we surprisingly haven’t seen them out and about very much. Compared to the Nike Air Mags—which cost significantly more than the “Galaxys” and which we saw everywhere when they were first released (mostly on the feet of rich celebrities)—the “Galaxys” seem to be locked away in a bunch of closets out there. So, we were pleasantly surprised when we saw Delonte West rocking a pair of the “Galaxys” during the Dallas Mavericks/Miami Heat game on Thursday night. After sitting out for 22 games with a broken finger, West made his return to the court in very dramatic fashion by rocking the “Galaxys” and catching the eye of sneakerheads everywhere.
Now, this is interesting for a variety of reasons. One, because didn’t Delonte just come out and say that he used to sleep at the Mavericks arena at the start of the season because he’s having financial issues? Two, hasn’t he been very vocal about all the expenses that come along with being a professional athlete? And, lastly, doesn’t he realize how much a pair of “Galaxys” are potentially worth? Dude, come on! And we also have to point out that he’s the second player to be spotted wearing “Galaxys”—Rajon Rondo also wore a pair during the 2012 NBA All-Star Game—so it’s not like he was breaking ground here by wearing ‘em. If you’re that hard up for cash, how ’bout flipping your Galaxys for a profit, fam?
