In the nearly two months since Whitney Houston‘s death, her mother, Cissy Houston, has remained relatively silent in the press. But in a recent interview conducted during a gospel rehearsal at the New Hope Baptist Church where Whitney’s funeral was held, Cissy (a famed singer in her own right) opened up about dealing with her daughter’s life struggles (including a drug addiction that contributed to her death), slammed the media’s coverage of her death, and addressed the rumor that Whitney was broke when she died. She told Brenda Blackmon of NYC’s My9 News:

“I know I did the best I could. … I don’t blame myself. I know I did the best I could for everything.”

During the interview, Cissy also lashed out at the media for their coverage of her daughter’s shocking death, describing it as “awful”. She said:

“All they know is what they hear, bad things, she’s had her ups and downs. Who hasn’t? Let them think and know what they want to say…I just hope they never come and say it to me.”

Addressing the rumor that Whitney died broke, Cissy said:

“Whitney did not die broke … she’s not broke. None of that crap.”

The interview will air in its entirety during the 10 O’Clock news on Channel Nine on Monday night. Check out a preview in the video below:

Cissy doesn’t seem like she’s too much in mourning. Any wise person, as she is, knows that her time is almost up as well.
