Ok, Herman Cain, you win. I thought I was done writing about you, your insulting disregard for the American electoral process, and your irrelevant opinions forever; but when you say stuff like this, I just can’t resist. On yesterday’s broadcast of The Steve Gill Show, Cain said without hesitation that his pick for a Mitt Romney running mate would be “Col. Allen West out of Florida.”

Cain explained further:

“Here’s why. He is direct. People in Florida love him. He has a huge following. He is from Florida – Florida is going to be one of those key states. But more importantly, Col. Allen West is a dedicated patriot, he served in the military and he’s willing to serve his country some more.”

He’s also the basest kind of fear monger who has no interest in reconciling the partisan bickering that has deadlocked our nation. West has alternately compared Democrats to Nazis and slave owners, called Barack Obama “a low level socialist agitator,” and variously declared that Islam, Medicare, and gays in the military are major threats to national security.

Oh yeah, and he hasn’t even completed one term as an elected official.

An inexperienced maverick who is prone to saying crazy things getting the Republican VP nomination? What could possibly go wrong?
