Nokia Lumia 900 Now Available For FREE

Troubled Finnish manufacturer Nokia has just announced that their well-reviewed Lumia 900 smartphone will be available for essentially nothing through April 21st for all AT&T customers. Any one purchasing the phone will receive a mail-in rebate good for $100, the same as the retail price.

According to Engadget, this amazing deal is an attempt to make up for earlier problems with the model:

Ostensibly a gesture of goodwill from the Finnish manufacturer, which confirmed that a small number of early handsets shipped with faulty software that caused memory management issues and eventually data connectivity woes. It insists this problem is now fixed, and that come April 16th, all affected consumers may swap their device at any AT&T store or merely download the update. Previously, AT&T had announced a $100 mail-in rebate for new subscribers that’d purchased the Lumia 900, but thanks to Nokia, it’s now effectively free for all.

Gizmodo notes that this is an especially expensive way for Nokia to try to get a toe-hold in the market for their Windows phone: the Lumia 900 could cost as much as $217 to produce (based on a breakdown of its component parts), so they were already selling it at a loss.

What do you think? Will you be grabbing this deal?

I purchased Nokia Lumia 900 yesterday and will get the $100 rebate. I have had no problems with connecting to web. At&t said it was a hit and miss issue and not all phones are affected. My Lumia is working fine and is very fast on the 4G network. I have used it extensively and love the ease and functionality. It is a well thought out phone and far superior to my Blackberry Torch which is 19 months old. Like any new gadget – it is important to use it, experiment and learn all the many functions to be productive and have fun. The Nokia Drive GPS application is awesome.
