Lady Gaga Under Fire For Saying “Pop Singers Don’t Eat”
Twitter has given us all a very public space to voice our innermost thoughts and even superstars like Lady Gaga can fall victim to its spell.
Earlier this week, Mother Monster tweeted a hashtag (which seemed half-humorous, half-serious) saying pop stars don’t eat.
She instantly came under fire from fans and non-fans alike, criticizing her for projecting an unhealthy image to her millions of fans (especially considering she’s been very vocal about her past struggles with eating disorders). One user wrote: “dear @ladygaga, you just blatantly endorsed anorexia to over 22 million followers. how do you sleep at night?” while another wondered, “@ladygaga pick a side… Do you want to promote beautiful and healthy kids, or anorexia?”
The National Eating Disorders Association even tweeted her in response: “Huh? This is the same person who recently implored girls to stop dieting?”
Gaga recently told Oprah Winfrey she was taking a self-imposed media exile, which perhaps should involve her Twitter account also.
