French Designer Says He Is Working On “Revolutionary” Apple Product; Apple Says “Huh?”
Famous French designer Philippe Starck told told French newspaper Le Figaro this week that he is collaborating on a “revolutionary” new product with Apple, which will be unveiled in eight months. Starck, who has designed everything from toothbrushes to hotels, added that he met with the late Steve Jobs once a month for seven years, and continues to meet with Jobs’ widow for discussions. But the designer declined to comment further, citing Apple’s “religious cult of secrecy.”
Early excited gossip wondered if Starck could be bringing his signature touch to the iPhone 5 or the AppleTV.
Just one problem: the project is so secret, Apple’s never heard of it. A spokesperson for the company said they are not in fact collaborating on anything with Starck.
9to5Mac points out that apparently, Starck was designing a boat for Jobs (privately, not as an Apple product), which would explain the meetings. Still, a de facto iBoat would be pretty cool, even if not revolutionary.
Do you think Starck has anything up his sleeve? What would you like to see him design for Apple?
