Does The Shirt Lamar Odom Wore When He Left Dallas Last Week Prove He Still Wants To Be A Los Angeles Laker?
Lamar Odomo had quite the week over the course of the last seven days. Exactly one week ago, everything was seemingly pretty normal for him. He wasn’t enjoying a stellar 2011-12 NBA season. But, his Dallas Mavericks were in the playoff picture. He was getting plenty of minutes. And the thought was that if he just kept playing hard for the Mavs, they’d let him work his way into their system slowly before they expected too much from him.
And then, a crazy thing happened last Saturday night: Odom got into a heated altercation with Mark Cuban during the Mavs game against the Memphis Grizzlies. Then, decided he didn’t want Odom on the team anymore. And, Odom left Dallas shortly after that after being told that he’d be remain on the Mavs roster until at least June but that he’d be listed as “inactive” by the team. Quite the turn of events.
But, an even crazier thing happened when Odom left Dallas and it just came to light thanks to an alert blogger on Lakers Nation: Odom walked out of Dallas—literally, out of Dallas—wearing a Los Angeles Lakers championship shirt. That’s right. Although he’s still technically on the Mavericks, Odom is still repping the purple and gold to the fullest and it’s pretty clear that he wants to be back at the Staples Center next season. His wife Khloe Kardashian lives in L.A. That’s where his home is. And, that also appears to be where he feels most comfortable playing. The Lakers didn’t want him earlier this season, but he still wants them.
Is that where he’ll end up at, though? Well, if the Mavericks either trade away his contract to a team who wants to buy him out or outright cut him in June, he’ll be able to sign with the Lakers for the veteran’s minimum next season. If he’s willing to do that—and, let’s be honest, why wouldn’t he be willing to do that? He’s married to a Kardashian, so money is hardly an issue—he’ll probably end up being a Laker again. If not, well, there’s a good chance he could have trouble catching on someplace else. But, if his shirt is any indication, we already know where his heart is. Now it’s just a question of whether or not the Lakers will welcome him back. Guess we’ll find out in June, Lamar.
