Check Out Michael Fassbender In A New Viral Video For Prometheus
The premeire of Ridley Scott‘s highly-anticipated Prometheus is getting closer every day now, and the publicity machine is kicking into high gear. This week, the film’s campaign released a brilliant video posing as an extended advertisement for “David 8,” the life-like android in the movie played by Michael Fassbender. And if you ask me, it’s both gorgeously produced and one of the most (unintentionally?) hilarious short films I’ve seen in a while.
If David’s Hitler-youth-haircut and creepy British understatement (“distressing…or unethical”) wasn’t enough to push me over the edge, the shots of him gazing admiringly at the flowers had me literally laughing out loud. It’s as if they were saying, “Hey, look at this robot who’s gonna go crazy.” We see all the warning signs, and they know we know.
I like to think that Scott (or whoever was in charge of this short) was indeed engaging some dark humor, deeply satirizing not only the movie conventions, but also the culture of the corporate and advertising worlds that could very possibly dream up such an ad campaign. And this shot of comedy would be welcome in a film that promises to be a heavy, action-packed thriller.
In any event, I loved it, and I’m more psyched than ever.
What do you think of this peek at David 8 from Weyland Industries?
