Preview: Behind The Music – Nas
There are rappers and then there are true MCs. In an industry that sometimes has trouble distinguishing the men from the boys, there is absolutely no mistaking the status of Queensbridge-born living hip hop legend Nasir Jones.
Since his first verse on Main Source‘s “Live At The Barbecue” in 1991, the lyricist has been thought-provoking, eloquent, controversial, and complex. Like most other rappers, he’s also been contradictory (or hypocritical, as some would say).
Despite all of the respect and weight his name carries, most of us don’t really know the story of Nas very well. We may hear bits and pieces of it in interviews and die-hard fans like myself may have seen his episode of Driven on MTV, but we’re still left wondering.
Hopefully, more of our questions can be answered with Nas’s upcoming episode of VH1′s Behind The Music.
That’s right, Mr. Nasty Nas himself has agreed to sit down and tell his story. In a recent interview, he says that he didn’t really want to talk about his life, but he knew that if he didn’t tell the story someone would tell it for them.
For fear of having someone else tell his story (say in an unauthorized tell-all or something of the sort), Nas is here to give you the Behind the Music look into his life and times, and how his experiences culminated in the verses of one of the greatest lyricists hip hop has ever known.
Get More: Nas, Behind The Music
Nas’s Behind The Music premiered last night, and is now available online. If that’s not enough for you, the video for his latest single, “Nas The Don” will be dropping soon and he has sat down to have his life story written up by the one and only Touré, so you’ll be hearing a lot from the Street’s Disciple soon enough.
