Tyra Banks Fires Nigel Barker, J. Alexander, & Jay Manuel From America’s Next Top Model
This has to be the most shocking elimination yet.
Without so much as a lengthy deliberation, Tyra Banks, the creator of America’s Next Top Model, just announced that photographer Nigel Barker, 38, runway coach J. Alexander, 53, and creative director Jay Manuel, 39, will not be returning next season to the popular modeling reality series that has been giving viewers an inside look at the world of modeling since 2003.
“Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel, and J. Alexander have been an integral part of the America’s Next Top Model brand and they helped turn this show into the household name it is today,” executive producer Ken Mok said in an official statement. “They have been amazing assets to the show and will always be a part of the Top Model family. We will continue to actively work with each of them on future projects.”
After informing the guys that their contracts would not be renewed, the 38-year-old supermodel made an official statement via Facebook.”To my Nigel Barker, Miss J, and Mr Jay: Thank you for all of our years together on America’s Next Top Model,” Tyra wrote. “Working with you is always an absolute pleasure. Excited for what the future holds for us.”
According to Nigel, the news wasn’t a surprise at all. “It wasn’t a shock. I’m friends with Tyra and the producers,” he told E! News. “There had been a discussion that ratings were down and that something like this would happen. There had been previous years where discussions about me being eliminated from the show had happened and I had actually survived the chopping block before.”
Despite all attempts to make this split look amicable, Miss J hinted that not all things were happy in model land. “After 18 cycles, I found myself in the bottom three and Tyra pulled a surprise triple elimination,” Miss J told Us Weekly. “I didn’t even get to runway for my life!”
Yes the ratings are down for this show…it’s old, it’s tired…everything’s already been there done that. In short, it’s run it’s course. Getting rid of these three (well at least Nigel & J. Manuel for sure) is going to hurt this already limping-along show.
To be honest the main reason (in my view) this show has gotten so old and tired is Tyra herself. The cheesy intro’s, her TIRED schpeel at every elimination (come on, you don’t have to say the SAME FRIGGIN THING every single time!) THAT is old, it’s boring…and it NEVER changes not to mention you can only watch so much “me, me, me” behavior…where Tyra promotes her book, makes a really lame video to promote her book (come on, that video sucked!) and comes up with stupid “super hero” names or uses herself as the guest photographer.
What needs to change about this show is her.
I have to Ageein with you. The whole point of whicing this show was Bc of Mr.Jay. don’t get me wrong the other two was awsome to whach too, but Jay Manuel chach my eyes when Frist whach this show. I have say content with him more. I diding really like tyra from the beging. you are right this show it’s all about her. oh well you will chach whaching this show no more.
