Are Basketball Wives Producers Planning A Lawsuit Against Jennifer Williams?

As I previously told you, the producers of Basketball Wives are allegedly very unhappy with Jennifer Williams‘ decision to file a lawsuit against Evelyn Lozada‘s assistant, Nia Crooks, for smacking her across the face on a recent episode of the show. Their unhappiness with Jen multiplied when she began bashing the show’s portrayal of black women in interviews. Apparently fed up with the “bourgeois” member of the cast, Basketball Wives producers are reportedly planning a lawsuit of their own. According to TMZ:

“Now sources tell TMZ — producers are ready to take their own legal action after Williams went on a media rampage and blasted “BB Wives” alleging the show portrays African-American women negatively.

According to our sources, producers feel Williams’ show-bashing is in violation of her contract — which forbids cast members from doing any media appearances or press without approval, or speaking negatively about the show. We’re told they feel she is ‘ruining the brand’ they worked so hard to build. “

This is getting ugly!! Judging by all the drama, we don’t think Jen will be returning for season 5 of the show. I guess BBW producers will have to find someone else willing to be Evelyn’s punching bag on national televison.

  • We Are Better, We Deserve Better

Most African American women do not behave this way. Still, if the networks were not aware that there were impressionable minds watching, the shows would air without commercials. Of course they do air with commercials because they know people with impressionable minds are indeed watching. I’m not against reality tv. I enjoy some reality shows just like everyone else, but this one in particular has taken a dark and violent turn. If we watch the shows that depict the “real” lives of the white women, there is a subtle difference. They are shown as carefree, free-spirited party girls who we watch evolve into mature, responsible, married business women. That is not the case with this show. Television is medium that has been used for generations to influence popular culture. Knowing this, is it not at least somewhat bothersome that most of the reality programs that depict African American and Latina women reflect them to be violent, shallow, self-absorbed, gold-diggers? We deserve better.
