<description>We Are Better, We Deserve Better

Most African American women do not behave this way. Still, if the networks were not aware that there were impressionable minds watching, the shows would air without commercials. Of course they do air with commercials because they know people with impressionable minds are indeed watching. I&#039;m not against reality tv. I enjoy some reality shows just like everyone else, but this one in particular has taken a dark and violent turn. If we watch the shows that depict the &quot;real&quot; lives of the white women, there is a subtle difference. They are shown as carefree, free-spirited party girls who we watch evolve into mature, responsible, married business women. That is not the case with this show. Television is medium that has been used for generations to influence popular culture. Knowing this, is it not at least somewhat bothersome that most of the reality programs that depict African American and Latina women reflect them to be violent, shallow, self-absorbed, gold-diggers? We deserve better.
