Simpson Bowles recommended $3 expense reduction for every $1 tax increase to balance the budget and that plan was rejected by the Republicans in the house. Later, there was a hypothetical 10/1 expense reduction to tax increase offer made to Republicans, and the Norquist drones rejected that as well.

In the midterm, the Republicans campaigned on jobs, but having gained the House and control of many state government, we saw a (ALEC) coordinated pursuit of voter suppression, union busting, abortion restrictions, personhood, gun rights liberalizations (stand your ground), and anti immigrant legislation all against the back drop of reduce spending on education and infrastructure, while denying the legitimacy of science and the need to reform health care.

This current crop of Republicans are not about governance but about dogma.
