Report: Andre 3000 Set To Shoot Jimi Hendrix Biopic In Ireland

In a case of perfect casting, OutKast‘s Andre 3000 is reportedly set to begin shooting the highly anticipated Jimi Hendrix biopic later this month. The hip-hop star will travel to Ireland for the role, where he’ll portray Hendrix during the period in the mid-60s when the rock legend set up shop in London to record his debut album. According to IFTN:
“…All Is By My Side will document Hendrix’s period in England over 1966 and 1967 as he formulated his debut album and some of the greatest guitar music ever created. The feature film will be written and directed by John Ridley, who is best known as the writer of ‘Three Kings’ and ‘U-Turn’.”
Andre’s past acting gigs include roles in Be Cool, Revolver, Semi Pro, Four Brothers, and Idlewild. If he has the chops to do what Jamie Foxx did in Ray, it’s quite possible that this role will finally earn him the kind of accolades in the acting world that he has enjoyed in the music world.

Everything Rock knows about the guitar after 1970 came from his psychedelic twisting of what the instrument could do. I paid homage to Hendrix with a portrait called Purple Haze on the anniversary of his passing recently. You can see it at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/09/purple-haze-jimi-hendrix.html and tell me how the voodoo child’s music has influenced you!
