Rumors: $200 iPad Mini Set For October Release

Site iMore is reporting that the 7-inch iPad, or iPad Mini, is a reality, and will debut in October. The really big news: it will cost somewhere fro $200 to $250.

Rumors of a 7-inch iPad have been floating around for a while, and have only gained steam as the $199 Amazon Kindle Fire continues to tear up the tablet market. But this is one of the first times such a low price has been cited for a potential Apple alternative. While the article does not specifically cite this as a response to the Kindle Fire, write Rene Ritchie does say that her sources address the more crowded field:

…the reason for such aggressive pricing is to do to the tablet market what Apple did to the MP3 market in 2004 with the expansion of the iPod product line — leave absolutely no space for competitors.

What do you think? Would you buy an iPad mini at that price?
