Bono Officially Becomes World’s Richest Rocker
Thanks to his early interest in Facebook, Bono has officially surpassed Sir Paul McCartney to become the richest rocker in the world.
The U2 frontman’s investment group, Elevation Partners, owns 2.3 percent of Facebook shares. The investment is now worth an estimated $1.5 billion (thanks to today’s record-breaking Facebook IPO that netted founder Mark Zuckerberg $20 billion)—not bad for a $90 million investment back in 2009.
And what of Sir Paul’s fortune? Well he’s worth an estimated $1 billion, so Bono now clearly leaves him quite far behind in second place.
