The Nike Air Penny II Just Got An Extremely Bright Makeover

In case you haven’t noticed, somebody in the Nike Sportswear department discovered a closet full of unopened fluorescent paints recently. We say that because there’s really no other way to explain why so many Nike sneakers—and sneakers in general really—are suddenly so damn bright. It seems as if no color is off limits these days with all the colors of the rainbow—plus every single fluorescent color ever—being featured on sneakers. Not that we’re complaining. With summer right around the corner, we welcome these bursts of color.

The Nike Air Penny II LE is a perfect example of how an old sneaker can be made new again with a fresh coat of paint. As you probably know, this particular sneaker was usually always released in colorways that featured black, white, and small hits of purple. But, with this Air Penny II LE, Nike designers have let their imaginations—and their paintbrushes—go absolutely wild to create a “Soar/Cyber” colorway that makes the Air Penny II look like a whole new sneaker. It features bright hits of blue and neon, a white midsole that contrasts the bright colors, and laces that literally and figuratively help tie everything together. They’re already being dubbed the “Sprite” Air Penny II and they are, in a word, dope.

Unfortunately, this particular pair might be tough to get. And, they won’t be cheap. Priced at around $250, they’ll be available next month at select Nike Sportswear accounts. But, if you can’t get your hands on this particular pair, don’t worry about it. Nike seems to be adding plenty of color to all of their sneakers right now. So, even if you don’t land a pair of these Air Penny II sneakers, there are plenty of other colorful Nike kicks out there that you will be able to cop today. And, we recommend that you do it. These are the kinds of sneakers that will be perfect for the summertime.
