Google Local+ With Zagats Takes On Yelp

Submitted by on June 1, 2012 – 11:10 am2 Comments

Google unveiled their Google+ Local product this week, overhauling and streamlining their reviewing system of local business. The new tab on Google+ will also show up as search results in Google Maps, and will replace Google Places pages. The social networked reviews of businesses, combined with Zagat reviews from the legendary restaurant reviewer that Google purchased last year, position Google to take a bite out of reigning business review site Yelp.

Google explains the changes in a blog post:

With the release of Google+ Local, rolling out today, we are bringing the community of Google+ to local business owners around the world. We aim to improve the way people discover new businesses, rediscover places they love, and share them with their friends across the web.

Google also released a video to explain the uses of the new features, emphasizing how central Google+ is to the new experience.

What do you think about Google+ Local?
