Captain America 2 May Be Directed By Community Alums

THR reports that Joe and Anthony Russo are in final talks to direct last summer’s blockbuster hit Captain America: The First Avenger. The duo, who are better known for quirky television comedies, could create a fanboy match made in heaven.

As the article notes, this would be an unusual choice for the superhero franchise:

The brothers continue Marvel’s strategy of finding unorthodox helmers for their movies. The Russos are known more for their work in comedy, having directed You, Me & Dupree and directing and executive producing the low-rated but strongly followed NBC comedy Community.

The Russos also wrote and produced the brilliant Arrested Development.

When you think about how genre driven, cinematic, and downright nerdy their television projects have been, I think it shows that the Russo’s might be exactly the right choice. Although I am a little surprised that they reportedly beat out director George Nolfi, whose film The Adjustment Bureau was exactly the kind of well-made action/sci-fi/romance mix that Marvel must want.

What do you think? Should the Russos helm Captain America’s next adventure?
