Lauryn Hill Charged With Failing To File Taxes
On the heels of her successful surprise appearance at Summer Jam 2012 last weekend comes news that Lauryn Hill is in deep doo-doo with the IRS. Reportedly, the former Fugees frontwoman is feeling the heat from Uncle Sam after failing to pay taxes for 2005, 2006, and 2007. Federal prosecutors announced on Thursday that Lauryn has been charged with willfully failing to file income tax returns with the IRS. According to the NY Daily News:
“Authorities said the famous South Orange, N.J., resident earned more than $1.8 million during that period with most of her income coming from recording and film industry royalties.
If convicted, she could face up to a year in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.”
Lauryn joins a growing list of celebrities who have gotten into hot water for failing to pay taxes. From Bow Wow and Nas to Ma$e and now Lauryn, that list is starting to look like the red carpet at the BET Hip-Hop Awards!!
