Jay-Z Is Adding Powermat Technology To His 40/40 Club
Jay-Z is trying to change the game. Again. But, it has nothing to do with music, clothing, or sneakers this time. Instead, Mr. Carter is attempting to change the game through a big technological improvement that he’s getting ready to make to his 40/40 Club in New York City. After announcing that he would be getting involved in a joint venture with Duracell Powermat, LLC back in January, he’s now announced that he’s going to be adding the Powermat technology to the 40/40 Club.
So, first things first: What is the Powermat technology? Well, if you’re not familiar with it, it’s basically a small mat that allows you to charge your cell phone wirelessly simply by resting it down on the mat. The idea is that Jay-Z will add a ton of these mats to the 40/40 Club and allow patrons of the club to use them as wireless phone charging stations. We’re not sure if there would be any sort of charge for using the mats. But, the initiative would be in conjunction with the “Wireless Power Nation” campaign that Duracell Powermat has launched.
“People will be able to charge wirelessly on embedded ‘wireless power hot spots’ in public venues where they travel and interact through their day,” Powermat CEO Ron Rabinowitz said recently. “All they will need to do is put their phone on the table, same thing they normally do. The only difference is that now, their smartphones will get charged from the table.”
It sounds like Powermat could be onto something here. We already see plenty of people out at restaurants, bars, and airports with their phones plugged into outlets and charging. So, why not give them a better way to do it? And, by teaming up with Jay, they’ll be able to give Powermats a cool factor that’ll make them even more desirable. Keep an eye out for them popping up at the 40/40 Club and at other locations across the country. Don’t be afraid to try one out.
