Five Hot TV Shows To Watch This Summer
I know, summer is when you have to satisfy your couch potato fix with reruns of all your favorites. Well it doesn’t have to be that way! Here’s a list of shows running this summer- some new, some wildly successful already- that should have you excited. And remember, any of them could be a hit- Saturday Night Live began as summer filler for NBC.
The Choice
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and other celebrities judge women based on their voices alone. I’m sure the Jersey Shore star will explain that he is listening to the content of the women’s character, and not to the braggadocio of their words. Just kidding. I’ll be tuning in to see if the Earth opens up and swallows the whole affair.
Premiered June 7; airs Thursdays, 9pm on Fox
The Newsroom
If you’re like me, there’s been a hole in your life since Aaron Sorkin‘s seminal series The West Wing went of the air in 2006. (Sorry, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, you tried your best!) Where are we supposed to get our weekly doses of walk-and-talk and liberal speechifying? Hopefully, deliverance is at hand. Sorkin’s new series The Newsroom boasts an all-star cast, showcasing a legendary news anchor (Jeff Daniels) as he comes crashing down to Earth.
June 24th, 10pm on HBO
Dallas
It looks like TNT has gone all in with this flashy primetime soap opera. Producers might have to trade in some of the original series’ famous campiness for changing audience tastes, but backstabbing, money, and sex never go out of style.
June 13th at 9pm on TNT
Breaking Bad
Because Bryan Cranston doesn’t have enough Emmys yet. Everyone was left shocked by last season’s conclusion; tune in this summer to watch the twisted former chem teacher go ever further over the edge.
July TBA on AMC
Comedy Bang! Bang!
It’s a talk show! No, it’s a sitcom! No, it’s Pee Wee’s Playhouse on some sort of illicit substances! It’s Comedy Bang Bang, the small-screen adaptation of Scott Aukerman‘s popular podcast. Featuring Aukerman and Reggie Watts, each week introduces new A-level comedians for interviews, games, and sketches. A big victory for fans of Mr. Show with Bob and David, Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis, and anyone who loves to laugh.
Premiered Jun 8; airs Fridays at 10pm on IFC
