Disney Begins Filming Maleficent With Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie has been perfectly cast in the leading role of upcoming live-action fairy tale, Maleficent.
The film is based on the self-proclaimed “Mistress Of All Evil” character from the 1959 Disney classic Sleeping Beauty. After not being invited to baby Princess Aurora‘s christening, Maleficent curses her to “prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die” before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday. This new movie adaptation will “reveal the events that hardened [Maleficent's] heart and drove her to curse the baby,” says Disney in their official release.
An adjective meaning “to do evil or harm,” Maleficent was ranked number one in Ultimate Disney‘s Top 30 Villains countdown. The original character was designed as an elegant, sinister, green-skinned beauty centered around the appearance of flames, ultimately crowning her as a villain with “the horns of the devil.” She also appears as a dragon, modeled on the body of a rattlesnake with powerful muscles moving a bulky body over the rocky terrain.
Fans of Jolie and the classic Sleeping Beauty tale need to be patient as Maleficent (a 3D movie) won’t be released till March 14, 2014.
