Mike Tyson To Star In One-Man Broadway Show
From the ring to his personal life Mike Tyson has conquered many things in his 45 years. He’s now adding theater star to that list.
The upcoming one-man show Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth marks not only the champion fighter’s Broadway debut but also that of the show’s director, Spike Lee. “Timing is everything,” Lee said during the show’s media day yesterday as Tyson remarked, “I don’t know if I’m people-friendly, but I know I entertain them.”
Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth was inspired by Tyson’s viewing of Chazz Palminteri‘s long-running one-man show, A Bronx Tale. “This is what we decided to do after I gave up drugs and being a pig,” Tyson says. The show offers a loose script (written by Tyson’s current wife Lakiha) and has the star recounting tales of years of drug abuse, combative divorce proceedings with Robin Givens, memories of fights with Buster Douglas and more. With his trademark honesty, Tyson describes the show as such: “I’m trying to get paid and get out of debt and stuff. See you at the show.”
The Broadway show will have two previews starting July 31 before four scheduled shows in four days. Front orchestra seats are listed at $198.50 on Telecharge.com and a meet-and-greet-Tyson premium package at $299.50.
