Ford Invents Awesome Login App
When you think of the best new smartphone and computing apps, you think of Ford Motor Company. Right? In any event, the century-old automobile maker is getting into the app game with a smooth new program that stores all of your online passwords and turns your smartphone into a key for your computer, using the same technology as their new keyless entry systems.
Ford debuted Ford Keyfree, which also requires a Google Chrome extension, in a video from the Paris branch of advertising firm Ogilvy.
Apparently, it only works on Macs for now. While add-ons that store and autofill your passwords are fairly common, using the unique signatures of Bluetooth technology in this way is pretty impressive.
But why would Ford create an app that has nothing to do with their cars? Well, I think it’s interesting that the video comes from an advertising firm and not from the the car maker itself. Generate buzz, and young tech-saavy shoppers will have Ford on their minds the next time they buy.
