Who Wants an adidas Miami Heat “Geek” Championship T-Shirt?
If there’s one thing we’ll take away from the 2012 NBA Playoffs—outside of the fact that, you know, the Heat won the title and LeBron James got his first ‘chip—it’s the ridiculous “geek” glasses that so many players wore during the playoffs. From James and his teammate Dwyane Wade to Oklahoma City Thunder players Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, it felt like every player in the playoffs had a pair of non-prescription glasses on. Some eyeglass companies even claim that their profits have gone through the roof in the last couple of months because of the unofficial endorsement that NBA players have given to the “geek” look.
adidas wants us to remember that look, so they’ve gone ahead and created a T-shirt that commemorates both the Heat and their star players Chris Bosh, D-Wade, and Bron-Bron and the glasses that all three of them favored during their playoff run. As you can see on the shirt above, the adidas T—funny that adidas is releasing this seeing as how none of those players roll with adidas, huh?—features Bosh with a foam finger and the geek glasses, James with the Larry O’Brien Trophy and the geek glasses, and Wade with a small pennant and the geek glasses. It’s a pretty cool T.
Will you be ordering one now that they’re available? I’m not a Miami fan, so I’ll probably lay off. But, I could also easily see this T-shirt having some vintage value in about five or 10 years when these three have done their thing on the basketball court together and parted ways. At the same time, maybe this T-shirt will serve as an unwelcome reminder of how these three (and the rest of the NBA!) used to dress. Regardless, it’s worth stashing in the back of your closet right now. One way or another, it’s gonna have some value one day.
