Will You Buy An “I Like Obamacare” T-Shirt?
Even though the Supreme Court ruled that the healthcare reform law is almost entirely constitutional, many observers still think President Barack Obama and Democrats are ready to let the issue fade away. The law is still largely unpopular, and the decision might actually make things worse by energizing the conservative base and declaring that the individual mandate penalties are a “tax,” something the president has long denied.
That said, liberals still showed signs that they were not only supporting the law but vocally celebrating it, and trying to reclaim the derogatory term “Obamacare.” The above t-shirt was still available today on BarackObama.com, along with one that commemorated Vice President Joe Biden‘s infamous outburst at the signing of the law:
The administration has slowly come around to the term Obamacare, which has become the default name for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The president himself addressed the term back in 2011 when he said, “Folks go around saying Obamacare. That’s right- I care.” His campain didn’t use the word in an official communication until March of this year, when they urged supporters to reclaim the term.
What do you think? Will you make an Obamacare fashion statement?
