Lauryn Hill Diss During BET Awards Upsets Beyonce
Lauryn Hill‘s recent tax issues were the subject of a very tasteless joke on Sunday night during the BET Awards. While presenting the award for Best R&B Artist, one of the members of Mindless Behavior took a dig at their co-presenter Mike Epps‘ singing ability (or lack thereof) by saying, “You sing bad…like Lauryn Hill’s tax accountant bad.” The joke didn’t elicit too many laughs from the crowd, and allegedly pissed off Beyonce. Reportedly, B, who won the award for the category, didn’t go to great pains to hide her displeasure. According to TMZ:
“…B was so upset, she scrapped the speech she had prepared and defended Lauryn’s honor instead … saying, ‘I want to thank all the talented R&B women that came before me like Lauryn Hill and Mary J. Blige.’
When B walked off stage, there was a woman waiting for her — possibly a BET handler — and B began to vent about the insult, saying the Lauryn Hill diss was ‘disrespectful’ and ‘not cool.’”
Yesterday, Mindless Behavior took to Twitter to apologize for the not so funny quip, saying:
“We meant no disrespect to our girl Lauryn Hill last night, it was a bad joke. We’re big fans and hope you’re not mad!”
Whoever wrote the joke in the first place should NEVER write another joke again. If this were 5 years down the road and Lauryn’s issues with Uncle Sam were resolved, then maybe the joke would have been funny. I don’t trust beyonce at all. She faked her pregnancy and she is blatantly promoting sex to children on some other shit like with her video and song (Party).
