Television Icon Andy Griffith, 86, Passes Away
According to reports this morning, famed television actor Andy Griffith has passed away at the age of 86.
Famous for his namesake The Andy Griffith Show and long-running series Matlock, Griffith passed away at his home in Manteo, North Carolina this morning.
In addition to his longstanding television career, Griffith was a Grammy award-winning southern gospel singer. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush in 2005 and has a statue of his character from The Andy Griffith Show (plus Ron Howard‘s sidekick character Opie) in Raleigh, NC. He is one of the state’s most cherished sons, having put it on the map in the entertainment industry via his television show being set there.
