Beyonce Pens A Letter Of Support For Frank Ocean: ‘Be Fearless, Be In Love’
Odd Future‘s Frank Ocean made headlines last week when he bravely posted a letter on his blog admitting that he was once in love with a man. He basically outed himself for the world to judge. Since then, celebrities from Solange to RuPaul have shown a plethora of love and support for the hip-hop maven, particularly on Twitter.
“My Big Brother Finally Fucking Did That,” tweeted Tyler the Creator. “Proud Of That Nigga Cause I Know That Shit Is Difficult Or Whatever. Anyway. I’m A Toilet.” Rita Oro wrote: “Once a brave soul opens up life doesn’t seem as hard as you thought it was. @frank_ocean inspirational.” Even Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine took to the Internet to show her support. “Just read @frank_ocean‘s post, so so beautiful.”
But, no public note of acknowledgement has been as touching as the one that Beyonce recently penned and posted on her blog. Miss Carter posted a picture of Mr. Ocean with a series of empowering phrases written across his face that seemed to sum up what Bey thought of Ocean’s recent revelation. “Be Fearless, Be Honest, Be Free,” she wrote. “Be Inspiration.”
Ocean has been a staple of the Carter creative team for a while now. Not only did he contribute two hooks to Jay-Z and Kanye West‘s album Watch The Throne, but he also penned “I Miss You” which appeared on Beyonce’s album 4. “Jay had a CD playing in the car one Sunday when we were driving to Brooklyn,” she told Complex about hearing Frank Ocean for the first time. “I noticed his tone, his arrangements, and his storytelling. I immediately reached out to him—literally the next morning. I asked him to fly to New York and work on my record.”
Frank also spoke about working with Beyonce in an interview with the New York Times. “She came in and heard the song, and she shed a tear and recorded it,” he recalled, “and I wanted to shed a tear.”
